SOPHIA'S STORY
OUR STORY
This nonprofit was created in loving memory of our daughter, Sophia Lucario. Sophia loved writing, photography, going to church, sunsets, blue skies, the ocean, and, above all, spending time with her friends. She was a passionate volleyball player who found joy and fulfillment on the court, where her spirit and energy shone brightly.
She was 18 years old when we lost her to suicide, and not a day goes by that we don’t feel the ache of her absence. But more than anything, we remember her light—how deeply she loved, how fiercely she cared, and how much she gave to others, even when she was struggling herself.
Sophia was a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, driven by her own experiences and a desire to help others who might be struggling. Her willingness to listen and understand made her a beacon of hope for many.
Sophia was the kind of person who made people feel safe, loved, and seen. She had a smile that could light up a room, a contagious laugh, and a heart that was always wide open. Whether she was on the volleyball court supporting her teammates or simply being there for a friend, she made an impact.
While Sophia was very open about her struggles, most people didn’t know just how deep her pain was. Sophia had battled mental health issues for many years. She lived with borderline personality disorder and carried so much more than she let on. Despite the pain she felt inside, she still showed up for her friends, her family, and for anyone who needed her. She was a lighthouse to all lost in their own storms.
We created this nonprofit because we want her legacy to live on. We want to honor who she was and the way she loved. We want to support other young people who are struggling, who feel like they have to hide their pain, who need to know they’re not alone. Through scholarships, mental health advocacy, and community outreach, we hope to carry forward the love, strength, and compassion that defined Sophia’s life.
This isn’t just a nonprofit—it’s our way of keeping her with us. It’s our way of turning grief into something meaningful. It’s a promise to her, and others like her, that their lives matter.
If there’s one thing she would want the world to remember, it’s this:
Be kind. Always.
Sophia Lucario was a bright light in The Woodlands, Texas. Despite battling Lyme disease and Borderline Personality Disorder, she remained a passionate advocate for mental health awareness, always putting others before herself. She found strength and joy in volleyball, playing competitively for nearly a decade while facing her own struggles.
Inspired by Sophia’s unwavering kindness, we aim to foster a world where every teen feels valued and understood.

Why are we called “Keeper of Kindness”?
Sophia’s motto was “Be Kind”…always. She believed in being a lighthouse to the world. Someone who shines light for others struggling in their own storms of life.
At 15, she and her friends decided to use a stick and poke tattoo. It should have gone away in a month or two. All of her friends’ tattoos disappeared, but Sophia’s stayed and never faded 3+ years later. When she passed, many of her friends went out and got similar lighthouse tattoos. You can see the tattoo just below her knee below. Sophia was a lighthouse and we encourage others to be lighthouse keepers in their everyday lives.
